SNAPPLE MASTER OF THE OCEAN 2008 Final Results
19 year old Manuel Rondón is the “Snapple Master of the Ocean 2008″, thanks to his performance in the surf, kiteboard and windsurf categories and was awarded prize money by the Secretary of Sports, Felipe Jay Payano After 5 days of competition in surfing, windsurfing and Kiteboarding, Manuel Rondón won first place in the general classification of the “Snapple Master of the Ocean 2008″. The event took place in Cabarete, Puerto Plata, with the support of Cadbury Schweppes Corporation Americas Beverages, SEDEFIR and the state secretary of tourism among other sponsors.
Manuel Rondón, a 19 year old Cabarete native, took advantage of the excellent weather conditions of Playa Encuentro, and with an ample and innovative routine in all three categories, won the title. Luciano González and Yan Marco Rivera won second and third place in the overall.
This unique competition combines surf, kiteboard and windsurf, had close to 80 participants from different countries, even though there was a majority of local riders.
The Secretary of Sports, Felipe Jay Payano, was present in the final “heats” of the competition and also participated in the awards ceremony. “This is a marvelous event”, he said as he awarded the different trophies. “This is proof that we have great champions in our oceans and the support of SEDEFIR demonstrates special recognition for this area of the country that has excellent natural conditions for the practice of these sports and their people” he stated.
In the individual competitions, Samuel Pérez won first place for his participation in “Master Wind”, Federico Arias and Winston Paulino, both from the Dominican Republic won second place.
Pedro Fernández was awarded “Mater Surf” for his excellent performance on the waves. Víctor Rosario and Luciano González won second and third place.
In one of the most competitive categories, “Master Kite”, Dominican Ariel Corniel won first place. Álex Soto and Yan Marco Rivera, won second and third place. Corniel was the first Dominican to win a world cup title during last year’s event in Cabarete.
Snapple Master of the Ocean 2008 was organized thanks to Snapple, Secretary of State Tourism, Secretary of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (SEDEFIR), Suzuki, Continental Air Lines, Claro/Codetel, Da Kine, Matercraft, Azzuro Hotels, Grupo Conolidado, Millennium, Chef Products, Dream Project, Oakley, Sema, Europcar, Ocean One, Ocean Pointm, FSC, Sea Horse Ranch, Viva Resorts, MovieTex, ADK, IKO, Lax Restaurant, La Campagna Restaurant, Tres Media Communication Laboratory, and the Community of Cabarete.
