The event combines social, economic and ecological objectives with the power of the ocean and a shared respect between everybody and everything.

With the distribution of approximately RD$3 million in Prize Money over the last ten years, the event has greatly benefited Dominican born talent, where many of the competitors have grown up in a life of poverty, no water and electricity – just the ocean. The event allows them to compete at a professional level and even become international watersport stars. As these young athletes continue to participate and show there skills, the entire world can see the North Shore is a natural talent pool waiting to be discovered. In addition, the event wants to change the perception that watersports are too difficult or too expensive.  With the support of the local Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Tourism, Master of the Ocean promotes the benefits of watersports, providing easy venues to facilitate local travel and the use of equipment.

Riding on the momentum created by these visitors, the event attracts more tourists interested in learning watersports by providing low cost alliances with tour operators, airlines, hotels and local schools.

“With the growth of both local and foreign interest, we hope the Dominican Republic will become not only a world class watersports meeting point but also a springboard for international competitors”, says Bohm. In addition to his own personal initiative, the event supports local and national foundations, whereby they are given the opportunity to use the media platforms and event sites in order to raise money for their own philanthropic initiatives.
